A fallen tree, which should have been removed long before, causes serious delays and, a day later, a suicide on the line means a day spent working from home.

What a crappy night on the trains. I got to Liverpool Street at 18h40 after a go-slow on the tube and the 48 still didn't have a platform. Neither was there any idea of when it would arrive - as every minute ticked by, the estimate slid another minute into the future.

Lately, the trains haven’t been so bad. Or perhaps I’ve become immune to their inefficiencies. We did have a terribly slow journey home on… Tuesday, was it? Not a good day for trains. After this mornings delays, more of the same tonight. Line congestion, it said at Chelmsford, but that's such a stupid cover-all excuse that it's useless. Trains theoretically run to a timetable, so you don't spontaneously get line congestion one day when you didn't have it the day before. Something must have caused it.

Two very unimpressive journeys in a row. Last night it was a points failure at Liverpool Street and a broken down train at Shenfield. This morning, who knows. They didn't give any excuse on the platform and the guard mumbled his announcements on the train.

This morning's trains weren't good. Mine was delayed by 10 minutes due to congestion on the line. The ones going in the other direction, running London to Clacton, were 40 minutes late due to signal failure.

Well surprise surprise. My line is closed every weekend for the next 40 while they do upgrades on a Sunday, and this weekend - the first it was closed - the work overran between Manor Park and Liverpool Street. Result: this morning's train is delayed by 20 minutes.
