It's Monday, so of course the trains were delayed this morning. This time around it was problems with a level crossing in Norfolk that caused the 09h02 to be 21 minutes late leaving Chelmsford.

We're just back from France, where we took a TGV down to Provence and back. It's reinforced for us just how much better the trains seem to be abroad.

After Monday morning’s crappy journey in, the journey back home was doubly shitty. Bad weather, it seems, stops trains from running on time in this country, and we crawled all the way back after lightning strikes caused problems somewhere around Ilford. Why that should affect the journey right back to Shenfield, though, I don’t know.... Read more...

A hopeless journey in this morning. Took the 09h02, and sat going nowhere just after Stratford while we waited for line congestion to clear ahead of us.

No updates on here for a while, but that's not to say the service has been markedly improved. Admittedly it's not usually as bad in the summer as the winter, but we've still had our fair share of delays. It's surprising how often it happens on a Monday morning or, as we've just had a couple of bank holidays, Tuesdays. Always the first day back.

Delays of five hours narrowly avoided this time around, but earlier in the week I wasn't quite so lucky.

What a crappy night on the trains. I got to Liverpool Street at 18h40 after a go-slow on the tube and the 48 still didn't have a platform. Neither was there any idea of when it would arrive - as every minute ticked by, the estimate slid another minute into the future.

A week of contrasts, as I start on an inefficient commuter run into London, and finish with an excellent East Coast train, both run by the same company.

Lately, the trains haven’t been so bad. Or perhaps I’ve become immune to their inefficiencies. We did have a terribly slow journey home on… Tuesday, was it? We crept and crawled half the way and then put on a spurt as we got close to Essex, making up some time but still rolling in late.... Read more...

I've not left yet, but after this week's problems and questionable news on the radio I decided to check the live departure boards online. It doesn't look good.
Wish me luck.
