Delays | January 13, 2009 | No comments

So last night’s trains were delayed by a person being struck by a train at Manor Park. Whether that was a suicide (attempted or successful – who knows) or someone being clipped as it passed the platform, I don’t know. What I do know is that it delayed the trains leaving Liverpool Street.

I find it hard to get too annoyed by this kind of delay. Whoever was hit by the train is in a far worse situation than anyone held up, and it did mean I could get on the 18h12 at 18h38 and roll out of the station at 18h52, so it could have been worse.

The slowest part of the journey, though, was from Brentwood to Chelmsford, through which we just crawled. This can’t have been caused by whatever happened at Manor Park which would have been 20 miles back by then, yet no explanation was given.

That, I think, is the most frustrating thing when you’re delayed: not knowing what’s going on, or why.
